Support Oklahoma State Question 788: Medical Marijuana

It’s no secret that I’ve been a supporter of the legalization and decriminalization of cannabis. Next year, we’ll get a chance to vote on a medical marijuana program right here in the state of Oklahoma by voting on State Question 788.

It may not seem like that big a deal, considering the general shifting of the national sentiment toward the plant, but for us, it’s a big deal. The number of people unjustly incarcerated for possession in Oklahoma is staggering, and is disproportionately skewed toward people of color. Our state is broke, and this would provide not only a new source of taxable income for the state, but a new viable crop for Oklahoma’s farmers. There are patients with ailments that are being successfully treated with cannabis and its extracts, but they’re being forced to use dangerous, addictive, and expensive pharmaceutical drugs and opiates.

Recently, I printed my own sub-par shirt to show support and raise awareness for SQ788 (pictured below), and the response online showed that MANY people, on both sides of the aisle, not only support the move, but also wanted to advertise. I contacted a number of local screen printers and t-shirt companies, but most either didn’t have the time or resources to print the shirts, or simply weren’t interested. There are still a couple I’m waiting to hear back from, but in the meantime, I wanted to provide people with another option.

I tried to open a store on Zazzle, but the website rejected my design based on its subject matter. After a lengthy email exchange with the company’s staff, they’ve agreed to host the store. You can visit it at: https://www.zazzle.com/yes_on_sq788

I consider this a temporary measure until I can get a local printer on board, but for now, it’ll work. I’ve applied a 5% royalty to the sale of the shirts, and every cent of that will be funneled back into the campaign of support, either into fliers or advertising – whatever we can afford. I won’t keep a cent for myself.

I’ve also attached the images I’m using, so if anyone wants to take them, use them, make their own shirts, or have their own shirts printed, please feel free. These images were created by Anthony Justiniano (thanks man).

Please share this if you feel called to, and let people know that these images are theirs to use as they see fit. If there’s a product or style you’d like to see in the store, and don’t, let me know and I’ll add it. If a local printer agrees to take this on, I’ll make another post pointing people in that direction.

Let’s get Oklahoma into the 21st century.

I wish Oklahoma the best on this issue. They need the cash and the State needs to step up with the times. Let the People’s voice be heard and acted on.
